ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE PROCESSED. Ensure you also include/forward additional documentation to support your application as specified at by the application (see details in additional documentation section below).
This application process covers ALL Recreation Therapy Internships and Recreation Therapy Community College student placements within mental health and addictions, community services, and hospital based recreation therapy services within the IWK and Nova Scotia Health Authority - NSHA(Central Zone) West Hants, Halifax and Eastern Shore areas.
APPLICATION DEADLINES

All NSHA and IWK internships are 16 weeks long (600 hours) Only students from programs that are in line with NCTRC eligibility may apply. |

NSCC applicants – Deadline: December 15th Please check with your NSCC practicum coordinator for yearly application deadlines
All other recreation therapy programs – please apply for student placement a minimum of 90 days prior to start of placement |
Priority will be given to applications received by the deadline. Late applications will only be considered if internships remain available.
PRE-PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- If you are a successful applicant, you will be required to meet ALL pre-placement requirements of the respective organization for which the internship/placement is occurring
(i.e. immunization requirements, criminal record check and vulnerable sector search, placement and confidentiality agreements etc.). Internships/student placements cannot be started until
all requirements have been met.
NOTE: Dalhousie Applicants are to have met the NSHA/IWK pre-placement immunization requirements prior to applying for an Internship. Please discuss your eligibility with your Internship
coordinator and the School of Health and Human Performance Administrative Secretary.

- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for success in the program and to ensure patient safety. Students must demonstrate objective competency in English, if it is their second language. A score of 550 or higher on TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required.
